A USAir flight from Boston to Pittsburgh made an unexpected landing at Albany County Airport this morning when the pilot was forced to shut down one of the plane's two engines, according to an airline spokesman.
The pilot of the Boeing 737, which carried 57 passengers and six crew members, "got some information that the left engine was not working properly, so he shut it down," said Mike Clark, the USAir spokesman.
Another spokesman characterized the landing, which occurred at 8:12 a.m., as "precautionary," and not emergency.
"A plane can fly all day on one engine," said David Shipley, the spokesman.
